The Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player

While shopping around for a Blu-Ray disc player, I read threw a string of reviews on some of the more popular models in the market and discovered there were a lot of buzz on the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The Sony Blue-ray player has tones of favorable reviews all over the internet and is the best-selling model on many online stores such as Amazon.com.
Out of curiosity, I went to a store nearby to take a closer look at the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The first thing I noticed about is was its new super slim and sleek design. It was much smaller than its predecessors with just over 2" in height and about 9" long. This is a big improvement over the previous models.
I brought some blu-ray movies and DVDs to test it out at the store to check out the image quality of the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The start up time of the machine was quick and the visual quality is comparable, if not slightly better than my friend's Panasonic DMP-BD30k. I then tried playing one my DVDs on the blu-ray player and was completely blown away by the video quality. Because Sony's Blu-ray players run on 40 megabits per second, DVDs movies will automatically look better on this blu-ray machine.
Cinema movies are recorded at 24 frames per second and blu-ray movie formats are mastered at this rate. Because of this the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player can output movies at1080/24p, giving you the best cinema-like experience possible.
The user interface and configurations of the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player is similar to other Sony DVD players. The cable configurations are also very simple, where you can easily set up the machine within minutes.

Blu Ray Movies in 3D - Don't Buy Until You Read This!

For a while now, consumers have been able to enjoy amazing, crystal clear resolution and incredibly crisp sound when watching their favorite movies or playing their favorite video games. This fantastic viewing experience can be attributed to Blue-ray disc technology, offering up to 48 megabits per second of viewing perfection, combined with the availability of High Definition Television (HDTV) sets. But now there's something new to get excited about. Blu Ray movies in 3D are coming soon to a store near you!
After HDTV sets became available to the general public, technology companies raced to create an easy-to-use, consumer friendly way for people to record and playback the high definition data required to capture that all-important sound and video quality. The Blu-ray Disc Association was the first to launch their groundbreaking Blu-ray technology, and the high-resolution, superior sound world of Blu-ray movies was born. This system is even more attractive because regular CDs and DVDs can still be played on Blu-ray specific players. Eventually this technology spilled over into video games as well, making the gaming world even more realistically interactive.
Thankfully for all of us who love our high definition entertainment, technology companies like the Blu-ray Disc Association are always looking ahead to see what's next, trying to find new ways to make our in-home theater experiences even more amazing. And the "what's next" is finally here! In January, Blu Ray movies in 3D will be launched, which will allow the home viewer to enjoy 3D movies in all their three dimensional glory right from the comfort of their own homes. Enjoying this amazing new technology will require a Blu Ray DVD Player 3D, and a High Definition Television (HDTV).
This amazing news is coming at the perfect time, as Hollywood studios produce such groundbreaking productions as Disney Pixar's "UP" and James Cameron's newest blockbuster "Avatar". When these 3D Movies become available to the general public, as long as the consumer purchases their Blu Ray DVD Player 3D, home viewers will be able to be transported to the same magical world that movie-goers in the theaters were able to experience.
Hopefully, as more and more people enjoy the fun of the 3D home theater experience, studios will produce more and more exciting films in 3D, thus leading to even further advances in technology. Maybe someday, viewing a 3D movie in all its glory won't require the use of those clunky 3D glasses anymore. But until then, maybe someone will invent a more stylish, comfortable way to enjoy the 3D movie viewing experience, both at home and at the theater. Exciting innovations always breed more exciting innovations!

If you are one of the very few who is still hanging on to your old DVD player, the time has never been better to start thinking about upgrading to the superior Blu-ray player. Good, high-quality players cost little more than $100.00. You can even find a whole range of efficient players for under $100.00. Many consumer experts predict that for the upcoming holiday seasons, prices for Blu-ray players will drop as low as $30.00 to $50.00. All these players will play your old DVDs better than your current DVD player. This is the most cost-effective upgrade you can come across. Not only will Blu-ray players play and up-convert your old DVDs, they can handle Blu-ray discs and come with various online streaming services as such as Netflix and Vudu. And if you have a HDTV or plan on purchasing one, a Blu-ray player is a must to get the most out of your HDTV.
For those who have already purchased a player, but did so a few years back, you may want to think about upgrading as well. Your 2007 player, while it still might produce stunning pictures and sound quality, you be missing out on all the new features that have been added to most of today's current models. Features like online streaming media services, built-in Wi-Fi, iPod/iPhone/Andriod app, Skype, DLNA capability and of course the new trend - 3D. Blu-rays over the past couple of years have evolved into a lot more than just playing physical media discs. Players have become the ultimate home theater accessory that provides many entertainment options.
Here is what you get with the current group of Blu-ray Players:
Online Streaming Media Services: Most players come with a host of online streaming content built-in. Every manufacturer has a different set, but you get access to a variation of services such as Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, Vudu, Amazon, Slacker, CinemaNow, Twitter, Facebook, Skype and literally hundreds more. They range from online movies to shopping to social networking sites. Some players even come with their own browser so you can surf and search the web. DLNA capability is also a popular feature on certain models, which allows you to access media files on your home network devices like your computer.
3D Technology: The last couple of years all the major electronic manufacturers have made a conscious effort to bring 3D technology home to our living rooms. This trend has continued and even grown in 2011. For we see a lot of new players out this year are 3D compatible. (You still require a 3D TV and 3D glasses to view 3D content). And 3D features such as 2D-to-3D conversion and 3D Effect Controller have been added to give us more control on how we view 3D content.
Up-converting DVDs: Many of us still have a large collection of old DVDs. It would get very expensive to replace all of them. Luckily for us, players have the capability to up-scale standard DVDs to near high-definition levels. Of course they will not have the same quality you get on Blu-ray discs, but your DVDs will look better than they ever have before.

VLC Media Player and Blu-Ray

The development of the Blu-ray and its spread have given a significant boost to the use of high quality multimedia content. The Blu-ray disc can store huge amounts of data in an optical medium of the same size as a music CD. In a thick disc of 1.2 mm and with a diameter of 120mm is possible to store an amount of data of much higher than that stored from the most common DVD, between 25 up to 128GB, depending on how many layers are written. Yes, because the blue disk is multilayer and burning technology used involves writing on a level or levels of the inner disk. Undoubtedly, technology is really spectacular if we think about everything that can be stored in a single Blu-ray disc, but there must also be said that the Blu-ray on the market often can not read into the deeper layers of the disc thus defeating the use of these optical media so capacious.
Moreover, the Blu-ray players are still very expensive because the technology is still new. However you can use your home PC to enjoy Blu-ray in comfort. Among the best performing video player and above all free and available on the market there is VLC Media Player, VideoLAN project released under GPL and completely free. The program has spread very quickly on the market thanks not only for its generosity but also for the undisputed quality of this small software. With very efficient codecs, which will be in the setup file after you download the program, VLC Media Player can read many formats, both audio and video like MKV, FLV, DivX, Xvid, Mov, Ogg, MP3 and many other yet. If you want to harness the power of this player with your BD extract the contents of the disc and convert it to Mkv format, choosing the language and whether to leave the subtitles. To do this you can use video converter, there are many online and are free. After you create your Mkv file just open it with VLC Media Player and enjoy when you want and where you want your favorite videos. With the latest version of VLC, the 2.0, the quality of audio and video stream and further improved. The program interface is even more essential and clear style, Mac, and hides a set of tools even more refined and effective management of media files. such as video, audio files and more.

Blu-ray Technology - What It Is And How It Works

Blu-ray is a cutting-edge, high-definition optical disc that can store significantly more data than a standard DVD. A single-layer Blu-ray disc can store approximately 25 gigabytes of data: five times the amount of a standard single-layer DVD. Dual-layer Blu-ray discs can store twice the amount as single-layer discs, and about eight times the amount of a standard dual-layer DVD.
A standard DVD contains enough space for a two-hour, non-high-definition movie, plus a few extra features. A Blu-ray disc allows enough space for 13 hours of standard footage or two hours of high-definition video. In addition, Blu-ray discs allow you to skip instantly anywhere on the disc; record one show while watching another; edit and reorder the footage on the disc; and access the web to download subtitles and other extras.
All DVD's and CD's store information as a series of grooves on the recording surface of the disc. The grooves are written in a spiral that winds from the center of the disc to the outside edge. On one side, the grooves appear as pits; on the other, they stand out as bumps. To read the disc, a player shines a laser over the bumpy side of the disc. The bumps cause the laser to bounce back and register on a sensor.
Standard CD and DVD players use a red laser to read the information on a disc. Blu-ray compatible players use a blue laser. Blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light. This makes the laser itself more sensitive and capable of detecting much smaller grooves than a red laser can.
Because the blue laser can detect smaller grooves, the information on a Blu-ray disc can be written much smaller than on a standard disc. This is why a Blu-ray disc can contain so much more information than a standard CD or DVD, even though the discs are the same size.
Blu-ray discs are constructed differently than standard discs. These differences in construction eliminate some of the design flaws in standard DVD's. One of these flaws is birefringence. In a standard DVD, the recorded data is set between two polycarbonate layers. The laser must shine through a layer of polycarbonate in order to reach the data.
Occasionally, the polycarbonate can split the laser into two beams instead of allowing it to penetrate, making the player unable to read the disc. The process of lining up the polycarbonate layers must be done with great precision to prevent birefringence. In addition, the laser beam can become distorted if the disc is not perfectly level inside the player, a problem called "disc tilt."

Blu-Ray Disks: Buying a Player

Blu-ray Disc is the the standard and technology that provides High Definition DVD and significantly greater optical disk storage for computers. A standard DVD typically contains 8GBs of data (some formats contain more); a Blu-Ray disc stores 25GB or 50GB. Panasonic has developed technology that supports storage of up to 500GB on an optical disk. Blu-ray Disc technology uses a 405 nano-meter (nm) blue-light laser which supports much finer granularity when reading the data encoded on an optical disc as compared to a DVD. (For you truly geeky folks out there, it's actually a violet wavelength, but stay with the crowd on this one.) Incidentally, a DVD uses a red-light laser at 650nm. As most of the folks reading this care about the High Definition application of Blu-ray, a standard DVD only contained enough storage space for a movie picture of around 350,000 pixels. Blu-ray, by comparison, supports over 2 million pixel resolution pictures, providing those great, crystal clear pictures we all like to see. So much for the technical geeky stuff -- if you want to know more, Wikipedia has great write-ups on DVD and Blu-ray.
This is a great time to get into Blu-ray. Over the past year, HDTVs and Blu-ray players have drastically come down in price. Most (all?) Blu-ray players are backwards compatible and can play your DVD collection. For you audiofiles out there, some of the mid-range Blu-ray players have better audio sections than many of the top-line DVD players. It just doesn't make any sense now to buy a DVD player. Of course, you need your media, too. Fortunately, you can get Blu-ray discs now at very reasonable prices. New releases still tend to be a few dollars more expensive than DVDs (they should -- it costs more to master and provide Blu-ray). However, you can get Blu-ray discs on sale at prices that are nearly as low as DVDs -- at you local super market, online (Amazon anyone?), and other places.
What are some of the key features you want to look for?
Great video processing -- Processing information from the disc to produce the great pictures you see is serious business, and takes major computational power. Getting a player with a upgraded video processor will provide you with a better, more vibrant picture with fewer artifacts (bugs).
Great audio processor -- One of the big bonuses of Blu-ray is an improved standard for audio information on your movies, too.
Universal disk -- Blu-ray is the state-of-the-art for both video and audio reproduction. However, there are a lot of formats out there with great content. DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, WMA, MP3, and many more. A great Blu-ray player will apply it's fantastic technology to these formats so you have a great choice of video and music.
Connections -- There are four key things to keep in mind for connections -- dual HDMI (high definition media interface) ports is really nice; multi-channel audio out; Ethernet; and SPDIF digital. Dual HDMI is nice because it will allow you have one HDMI interface go to your TV and another to your audio receiver. If you get a great player like the Oppo 93 or Oppo 95, you might want to use analog audio out (5.1 or 7.1 channel RCA audio jacks) to get the full benefit of the audio processing the player provides. Ethernet is critical for Internet streaming (WiFi is nice, but also have an RJ45 jack). And finally, relying on the optical SPDIF digital audio is fine. These four options should provide you great flexbility in how you use your Blu-ray player.
Web or Internet features -- Netflix, Block Buster, Yahoo TV, Google TV, YouTube -- all these great web services can be seen on your TV using a Blu-ray player that supports streaming. Unfortunately, this is an area that still has a lot of evolution to go. Web applications on HDTVs and Blu-ray players can be buggy and proprietary -- these aren't computers and they don't have browsers. To ensure you get the most of your player, you want to get one with upgradeable firmware.

High-Def Television and Blu Ray - A Match Made in Heaven?

Most people who have not yet forked out a hefty sum of money for an HDTV yet have no idea how much of a better picture they will receive when they finally do make that inevitable purchase. The main reason why HDTV contains a much superior image is because of the many more lines of resolution that HDTV disperses to its screen. The cathode tube TV, on the other hand, only has analog signals to disperse it's much more inferior video signal to its glass screen.
It appears as though LCD will be the main technology behind most HDTV's as it now stands because plasma screens are more expensive to manufacture and consumers don't like the glare that emanates from these TV screens under the harsh lighting conditions of most stores that have LCD and plasma TV screens standing side by side. Another advantage of having an HDTV in your living room over the regular cathode TV screen is the fact that after the digital conversion this country will be going through in Summer 2009, even stations that are not broadcast in HD will look very stellar indeed, but only if you own a plasma or LCD HDTV.
Another element to consider is the fact that Sony has now won the war over which high-definition DVD format will be embraced by both Hollywood studios and the basic consumer for the foreseeable future. Sony developed a DVD format called Blu Ray that essentially upgrades all movies embedded on their Blu Ray discs to 1080i resolutions, the best image possible for the average HDTV screen.
This break-through in technology means that anyone with an HDTV can now watch their favorite movies in true high-definition anytime they want to if they purchase a Blu Ray DVD player, and as long as their favorite movie is formatted for Blu Ray. If you have not yet done so, buying an HDTV will enhance your home entertainment viewing experience like no other component ever made.

The New Blu-Ray XL Format Stores Up to 128GB

A new format, the BDXL (High Capacity Recordable and Rewritable discs), have been announced by the Blu-ray Association. The Blu-ray XL or BDXL will have an increased disc capacity of 128GB. (This is more than 27 DVDs can have.) Expected sometime in the summer of 2010. The BDXL format will mostly be used by the commercial or profession sectors.
While the increased in disc capacity is good news, the new format can not be used on current Blu-ray Players. These new discs have four readable layers. The lasers found on current players are just not powerful enough to handle the new format. New players will be need to be purchased in order to use them.
While your currently players will not become obsolete anytime soon. It will be a few years before this new BDXL format makes it way to home users. There are some good possible functions of this new format. An increase in disc capacity should mean the Blu-ray XL format can have a higher quality High Definition and store more movies and TV show onto a single disc.
A second format, the IH-BD (Intra-Hybrid discs), has also been announced. This is a disc that will have one 26GB layer that is writable and a second 22Gb that is re-writable. Therefore, when you purchase a IH-BD Blu-ray disc it could have pre-loaded content on one layer and the other, re-writable layer, be free of any content. Both the BDXL and IH-BD will require new Blu-ray Players in order to play them.

Why You Should Consider A Blu-ray DVD Player

If, like many people, you have a large screen, high definition television set in your living room or den, you may not be getting the maximum possible enjoyment out of it. If, like many people, you are using a standard DVD player to feed your lovely big TV, then you aren't really getting the full benefit.
The fact is that standard DVDs can't store enough information to drive a large. modern, high definition television set and use it to its full advantage. That's where modern Blu-ray DVD players come in.
Blu-ray DVD players use a blue, rather than red, laser to read the information stored on the disc. That's where the name comes from.
The disc itself is also multi-layered - and these two facts mean that you can store a lot more information on a Blu-ray disc than on a conventional DVD.
Blu-ray DVD players and discs are capable of storing 5 times as much information as a conventional DVD. This extra information can be used to operate your large screen television at peak performance. You'll be amazed at just how much better both the video and audio quality are with a Blu-ray system
In addition to better sound and vision, the extra storage space can also be used for additional features. Interviews with actors, directors and authors, "the making of" features and other bonuses can make the entertainment value of a Blu-ray disc much higher.
And there are even more benefits on offer. The discs themselves are much more scratch resistant than standard DVDs - they're almost kid proof!
You can also access the internet and stream online movies from popular sites such as Hulu, Pandora and Netflix if you like. Internet access also allows you to access social sites such as Twitter and Facebook. You can let your friends and family know what movies you're watching if you like.

Blu Ray Players - Important Features and Buying Guide

Blu Ray is the latest high definition video technology that over took HD-DVD as the standard for high definition movies, video and players. With the invention of Blu Ray disks comes not only comes superb picture quality, but also a new durability and longer life span of the disks themselves not before seen with DVD disks and movies. Another benefit is that these disks can store a much larger amount of data and video than the traditional DVD-R and DVD-RW disks. Up to 25GB of data on a single layer disk and up to 50GB of data on a dual layer disk and over 9 hours of high-definition video on a 50GB disc.
Choosing a Blu Ray player will mostly depend on your personal budget as their prices range from budget models to very expensive high performance types.
For those shopping for the best Blu-ray disc players and know that price is not a limitation, then there are several quality brands to choose from on the market. The problem is that most consumers do not know how to compare one Blu-ray with another. As far as image goes, most of today's brands offer the same high-definition picture quality and really just differ in the features of each player.
When shopping for a Blu-ray player, there are two new features to look for when choosing a brand. The first is called Bonus View and lets you play back picture-in-picture content, which allows for a second video and audio stream.
The second feature to look for is called BD-live which supports Internet-connected activities such as social networking and interactive gaming as long as there is an Ethernet connection to the player.
If a more traditional unit is your preference, then the Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD is more your speed. This top shelf Blu-ray player runs around 800 dollars and comes with the same features as other brands. Where the Pioneer Elite tops other systems is in its audio features. If you pair the Elite with its manufacturer's recommended AV receivers, you will have a premium home entertainment experience like no other Blu-ray disc player on the market.
If you are looking for something cheaper without sacrificing quality, then the LG BD300 is the player for you. With most systems starting at below 300 dollars, these lightweight Blu-ray players offer the same picture quality as most units on the market while also offering the ability to stream Netflix videos right into your home.

Before You Buy, Check a Blu-ray Quality Comparison

Do you know why it's important to consider a Blu-ray quality comparison before you head out and shop for your Blu-ray player? It's easy to think that all Blu-ray players are alike but in reality this just isn't true. While the technology may be the same and they all work in the same way, there are some differences between them that you might want to consider. And some machines come with other options and features that might make them a better choice for you.
For instance, the PlayStation 3 is a Blu-ray player as well as having a built-in Wii. You can also browse the internet through this device. That means that if you want to play Wii games or PlayStation games or watch a movie in high def, this is the machine for you! With all these features standard it can become your true home theater component, whatever you're planning on using it for. As a matter of fact, some have said their only complaint is that they can't get the family away from it.
Of course there are other players on the market and you need to make your own decision about what works best for you. If you just watch the occasional movie but want it in high def, then a basic model may be for you. However you want to be sure that you're still getting your money's worth! The last thing you want to do is buy some knockoff or poor quality machine and wind up having to replace it after a few months. So do your research and keep in mind your own particular needs, and your Blu-ray quality comparison will save you money in the long run.

What Blu-Ray Features Should I Consider Before Buying A Blu-Ray Player?

Blu-ray players are getting cheaper and cheaper. And yes, all of these players, even the cheap ones, will provide excellent High-Definition images and sound quality to your movies. As well as getting more affordable, these players are constantly adding more and more different Blu-ray features. So there are other factors to consider before you decide to shop for a Blu-ray player. The simple fact is, if you own a HDTV or planning on getting one in the future, you owe it to yourself to buy a Blu-ray player. But don't rush out and get one just because you own a HDTV. There are certain factors about Blu-ray players you should be aware of and knowing what they are will help you make a better choice.
For one thing, and this may surprise you, it is not all about High-Definition. While the main reason for getting a Blu-ray player is to enjoy the stunning, crystal-clear images they produce; don't forget about its standard-definition performance. Many of us still own a large collection of DVD movies. Blu-ray players are not only capable of playing back DVDs, they can up-scale them to a higher definition. So how well a player can do this should be factored into your decision, especially if you are still going to be watching a lot of DVDs.
Also, every player will at some point will have firmware upgrades. Firmware is used by manufacturers to fix problems with performance or to add new features to the player after the player has reach the market place. Players that have an Ethernet connection are simple to upgrade, as firmware can easily be downloaded and then installed rather quickly. The other method is to download the firmware to your computer and then burn it on a DVD, which you then insert into your player. This method can be time-consuming and certainly more difficult.
Having a HDTV is an oblivious factor to consider. Most HDTVs manufactured today are capable of 1080p resolution, but there are some older model HDTVs with only 720p resolution. If this is the case, images from the player will be scaled down to match the HDTVs resolution. Images will still be of high quality and in High-Definition, however. And if you are thinking about getting a 3D player to view 3D movies, your HDTV must be 3D capable; and you will need a pair of 3D glasses for each person.
Of course producing HD images is only half of what you get with Blu-ray players. You also get high-resolution audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These are lossless formats that give us studio-master audio. Meaning we get the soundtrack identical to the original, without losing and sound quality. Most players can decode these formats internally or the signal can be transmitted via bit-stream through a HDMI cable to an A/V receiver. Of course, if connecting to a A/V receiver it must have a HDMI input. Some players do have multichannel analog outputs, which is great for those with older, non-HDMI A/V receivers. But these players tend to be high-end models and will cost more. DVDs and HD television programs are not capable of supporting these latest high-resolution formats.
Another important thing to consider is a network connection. Almost every player manufactured in the last couple of years will be BD-Live compliant. This means you need to connect the player to the internet to download content or interact with others. BD-Live features are found on certain Blu-ray discs and consists of deleted scenes, bonus scenes, chat rooms, live commentary, online games and other online content.

Save Big on Blu Ray Players

When my friends started buying Blu ray players a few years ago, I didn't immediately follow suit. I was perfectly content with my DVDs, and had spent so much money building my movie collection that I didn't even want to think about having to convert everything over to yet another format. But then I actually watched a few flicks on one of those Blu ray players and knew I wouldn't be able to hold out much longer. The picture quality was positively stunning, and made my DVDs look like ancient technology.
So I started checking out the different Blu ray players on the market, determined to get a good one at a reasonable price. Back then, these machines were still pretty expensive, so even when I found a decent deal, I ended up spending nearly four hundred dollars on the transaction. Obviously, shelling out that kind of dough isn't necessary today, especially if you know where to find the real bargains.
One thing I've learned is that if you really want to save big on Blu ray players, it's better to buy online. National electronics stores such as Best Buy do offer nice prices at times, and you can certainly walk into one of their locations and pick up a cheap player for $150. But that's pretty much what you'll get -- a cheap device with inconsistent performance and a short shelf life. I don't know about you, but I'd rather spend $300 on one of those high-end Blu ray players that retail for $500 than spend $150 on something worth $150. If dollars and cents are more important to you than the actual product, then you should go for the lowest price possible. If you want a great product, you might have to spend more in terms of dollars and cents, but you'll actually be saving more in the long run.
That's why my recommendation is to shop for Blu ray players online. There are many excellent online electronics retailers that carry a huge selection of products from the most trusted manufacturers. You'll be able to find a quality player with top performance capabilities that will give you a truly amazing home theater experience each time you pop in a disc. As long as you know what kind of specs to look for and what kind of prices are the norm (both of which you can figure out from reading various player reviews), you should be able to accomplish your mission.
The bottom line here is that there are affordable Blu ray players on the market for just about every type of consumer. If you're working with a very strict budget, then go for one of the cheaper models that are available. You might have to replace it within a few years, but that's a risk you have to be willing to take. If you're more concerned about performance, then spend some extra time shopping around for an awesome deal on a top-of-the-line model. Either way, you'll be able to enjoy a crisp, clear picture whenever you watch movies at home!

6 Things to Look for When Buying a Blu-ray Player

Shopping for a new Blu-ray player can be difficult when there are so many options to choose from. Here are a handful of things to consider when doing your Blu-ray comparison shopping...
First is picture quality. This is usually top of mind when it comes to buying any video player because a good picture helps recreate the movie theater experience in the home. However, most Blu-ray players are fairly equal these days. What you really want to think about is whether you want to be able to hook it up to a 3D TV, in which case you need to shop specifically for a machine that is compatible.
Second is sound quality. Most players currently support the most common HD sound formats, but it's important to check whether they'll support the full 7.1 channel surround sound setup. This way you know you'll be set up with the very best listening experience.
Coming in third are the extra features. Just like any other electronics you might purchase, it's usually the extra features that make one player stand out against another. Some players include an internal hard drive for storing music and home videos. These days most players allow you to take advantage of interactive features on Blu-ray discs, also known as BD Live. Many will even let you connect to your favorite streaming services such as Netflix.
As a side note, some of these extra features may have an impact on the price of the player you're looking for so be mindful of your budget when shopping based on extra features.
Fourth let's talk about DLNA certification. Sounds complicated, right? DLNA certification is becoming more common in a range of devices and not just Blu-ray players, it includes speakers, your smartphones, TVs and all sorts of gadgets. DLNA makes it easy to connect devices wirelessly over your home network to access photographs, videos and other media to your big screen TV via your Blu-ray player.
Which leads us to number five on the list, media storage. DLNA certification isn't the only way to access and play your other media. Most players also come with some form of media storage, whether that means an SD card slot, built in memory, or a USB port to attach an external hard drive.

Some of the advantages of the Sony Blu Ray 570
The Sony BDP-S570 Blu Ray Player is a great player. It has a very fast response time and very easy setup - it walks you through every step. It supports both 1080p blu ray with a superb picture, as well as regular DVDs, which it will render to beautifully to HD. Its big advantage is its built-in Wi-Fi networking and the Netflix support. After buying a Sony S570 you can give up your cable tv or dish network. You will be able to see anything you want on Netflix, so that your player will pay for itself very quickly.
The Sony BDP-S570 player is ideal if you would like to watch YouTube videos on your TV, or use the amazon video on demand service. You can also wirelessly stream photos, music and videos from other applications such as Pandora, Slacker or Picasa.
The original remote which comes with this player isn't very good. The buttons are easy to find, but it is not backlit, and not programmable. On the other side, you can set up your iPhone or iPod touch to replace the original remote control. You can download a free application to set this up. The iphone should be on your network for this to work.
The BDP S570 is 3D-ready. A soon-to-be-released update will let you play 3D blu ray discs so that you can watch them on 3D-capable TVs.
Where can you get the Sony Blu Ray 570 player on sale?
The most convenient way to buy this video on sale is through some of the big online stores. Many of them sell this player, and you can find some very good deals online.
As always when shopping online, you should be careful to buy only from a trustworthy vendor. Make sure you are buying in a known shop with a good return policy and good customer support. Before committing to buy, compare the prices in a few of these sites, and check the customer support on each of them, so that you do not find yourself disappointed. How Is it That Blu Ray Can Store So Much Data?

By now I'm pretty sure everyone has heard of blu ray technology and what its capable of. However the next few lines is for those of you that don't know what it is or what its capable of. Blu-Ray technology was released by Sony right when HD DVD was at its peak. At the time all movies would be released in HD DVD format and most of the people had already bought HD DVD players. But Sony came along and announced Blu Ray. They claim to have much more data capacity and data transfer rates than any other format available at the time or any time. Blu Ray can store five to ten times more data than what the conventional DVD's is capable of. However the only problem with this new format is that Sony made it incompatible with all other players including the current HD DVD players that were popular at the time. Blu-Ray discs can only be played on its own players. This created a problem for HD DVD owners who had already bought HD DVD players and could not watch movies that were exclusive to blu-ray.
A blu-ray disc looks like any other DVD, having the same size and dimensions. But then if that is the case then how is it able to store so much data? The answer to this lies not in its physical dimensions but in its write/read technology. Blu-Ray uses a blue violet laser having a wavelength of 405 nanometers to read and write data on the disc. This laser is where this technology got its name from. Unlike the blu ray, first generation DVD's and CD's use a red laser having a much larger wavelength to read and write data.
It is because of this short wavelength that so much data can be written on a single disc. The shorter wavelength means that data can be written more precisely thus resulting in higher capacities. A single layer disc can store up to 25 GB of data while a dual layer disc can support up to 50 GB of data. Whereas on the other hand, first generation DVD's use a red laser having a wavelength of 650 nanometers to write data. That is why it can only store 4.7GB on a single layer disc.
It is due to this technology that blu ray will eventually be used as the medium of choice for storage purposes. And as technology progresses the price of a single blu ray dvd will also fall. And thanks to personal blu ray burners this technology is not only available to the movie industry but can also be used by any person owning a blu ray burner.

Christian Jewelry: How to Find the Right Gift

Over the past century, Christian jewelry has enjoyed a surge of customers each year wishing to wear their faith in the form of pendant necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and earrings. The diversity of jewelry is truly amazing. Consumers have the opportunity to choose from gold, silver, glass, and handmade products each specially suited to their buying needs. Of course, jewelry is only one choice among the hundreds of other Christian gifts available. But how do you find the right gift for that special someone in your life?
The most admired item of Christian jewelry is the cross pendant. Symbolically, the cross signifies the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God, who was crucified on a cross for the sins of the world and to open the gates of heaven for those who believe. Cross pendants are available in thousands of styles and colors each unique to the eye of the beholder. Buyers and consumers alike spent countless hours finding the right cross for the person it is destined for. Do you purchase a small one or a large one? Should it be gold, silver, or another material? What colors would the recipient like? What type of chain should the pendants hang on or is a brooch, bracelet, or cross earrings more appropriate? Should the item be handmade? Yes, the decisions sometimes seem endless, but buying the right pendant comes from not the wallet, but the heart. If you have peace in your heart when you find that special cross that just might be the one, you have made a good choice. If you have butterflies in your gut, you had better keep looking.
With more than one billion Christians throughout the world, sharing the message of Jesus is best shown by example. Some are called to preach, but all are called to serve. Serving the poor, the hungry, the thirty, the lonely, the orphaned, the homeless, prisoners, neighbors, family and friends, and those less fortunate are those persons Christians are asked to reach out to on behalf of Jesus to make this world a little better each day. Wearing a cross pendant, brooch, earrings, or bracelet often lets the recipient of the Christian's good deeds have a concrete image of what drives them and why they do what they do. The joy of having a God who loves them and those in need is partly represented in that cross one sees on the person.
Religious jewelry for Christians, Jews, and other denominations will always play an important role in society. Although crosses are the most common representation of Christianity, other symbols such as fish jewelry and even hearts pendants and earrings can convey the love of one person to another. Keep in mind that the recipient will enjoy his or her Christian gift because it came from you.
